Symposium "Extremes 2014"

Earthquakes, Monster Waves, Freak Weather, and Other Extreme Events: Scientists Present Latest Research Findings in Hanover

Extremes of nature are a potential threat to all living things, as well as their environment, and they can cause serious economic damage. For scientists they represent a highly complex and intriguing field of research that calls for interdisciplinary cooperation. The Volkswagen Foundation has been supporting projects that investigate extreme events for a long time now. On 6-7 October, the grantees will be presenting in Hanover their latest research findings and discuss possible practical applications for society. Prof. Tilmann Gneiting (HITS Computational Statistics group) is one of the program comittee members.
