Klaus Tschira established the foundation, which is named after him, with private means at the end of 1995. His aim is the promotion of sciences, mathematics and informatics themselves and their public appreciation. Born in 1940, studies in physics, diploma from Karlsruhe University (1966), systems engineer at IBM Germany (1966-1972), co-founder of the ‘Systemanalyse & Programmentwicklung GdBR’, from which the SAP GmbH and later the SAP AG emerged (1972), executive board member at SAP (1988-1998), supervisory board member at SAP (1998-2007), establishment of the Klaus Tschira foundation gGmbH (1995), establishment of the European Media Laboratory GmbH (1997), establishment of the EML Research gGmbH (2003), renaming of EML-R to become HITS gGmbH (2010).
