{"id":35174,"date":"2024-07-02T15:02:32","date_gmt":"2024-07-02T13:02:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.h-its.org\/forschung\/computational-carbon-chemistry-ccc-de\/"},"modified":"2026-01-22T13:51:27","modified_gmt":"2026-01-22T12:51:27","slug":"ccc","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.h-its.org\/de\/forschung\/ccc\/","title":{"rendered":"Computational Carbon Chemistry (CCC)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Established in 2019 as a junior research group, the <strong>Computational Carbon Chemistry (CCC)<\/strong> group used theoretical and computational chemistry, physics, and materials science in combination with chemical machine learning to explore and exploit diverse functional organic and hybrid materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a group they were particularly interested in graphene-based materials, covalent-organic frameworks, and hyperbranched polymers \u2013 in the context of their applications in capture, storage, transport, and catalytic transformations of therapeutic molecules and environmental pollutants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2021 group leader Ganna (Anya) Gryn\u2019ova was one of the founding Principal Investigators of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.h-its.org\/research\/simplaix\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SIMPLAIX<\/a>, a 3-way inter-institutional cooperation on bridging scales from molecules to molecular materials by multiscale simulation and machine learning. The initiative, which is coordinated by HITS, is funded by the Klaus Tschira Foundation and supported by in-kind contributions from KIT and Heidelberg University. The group is also part of the SFB1249 \u201cN-Heteropolycycles as Functional Materials\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Together with Peter Smillie from Heidelberg University Anya and her team also contributed an interdisciplinary project to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.h-its.org\/research\/hits-lab\/\">HITS Lab<\/a> on \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.h-its.org\/projects\/organic-materials-by-geometrical-design\/\">Organic Materials by Geometrical Design<\/a>\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2021 Anya received an ERC Starting Grant for her project \u201cPATTERNCHEM: Shape and Topology as Descriptors of Chemical and Physical Properties in Functional Organic Materials\u201d.
