{"id":13277,"date":"2014-10-28T22:00:01","date_gmt":"2014-10-28T21:00:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.h-its.org\/?p=13277"},"modified":"2019-09-24T11:40:30","modified_gmt":"2019-09-24T09:40:30","slug":"sfb-881-the-milky-way-system","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.h-its.org\/de\/2014\/10\/28\/sfb-881-the-milky-way-system\/","title":{"rendered":"SFB-881: Das System der Milchstra\u00dfe"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The TAP group participates in the&nbsp;<a title=\"SFB-881\" href=\"http:\/\/sfb881.zah.uni-heidelberg.de\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Collaborative Research Center (<em>Sonderforschungsbereich, SFB<\/em>) 881 &#8222;The Milky Way System&#8220;<\/a>&nbsp;at Heidelberg University.&nbsp;The research work of SFB 881 revolves around our own galaxy, the Milky Way, a typical spiral galaxy and hence a member of the most common class of massive galaxies in the universe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The scientists involved in the SFB investigate the origins and evolution of the Milky Way in order to clarify fundamental principles of galaxy formation. The TAP group participates in the theoretical effort to understand the formation of the Milky Way in its cosmological context, primarily through the use of numerical simulations. This in particular tests the predictions of cosmological models on galaxy formation and helps to probe&nbsp;the small-scale distribution of dark matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The SFB 881 is located at <a title=\"ZAH\" href=\"http:\/\/www.zah.uni-heidelberg.de\/zah\/?no_cache=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Zentrum f\u00fcr Astronomie der Universit\u00e4t Heidelberg (ZAH)<\/a> and assembles scientists from the <a title=\"ARI\" href=\"http:\/\/www.zah.uni-heidelberg.de\/ari\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Astronomisches Rechen-Institut (ARI)<\/a>, the <a title=\"ITA\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ita.uni-heidelberg.de\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Institute of Theoretical Astrophysics (ITA)<\/a> and the <a title=\"LSW\" href=\"http:\/\/www.lsw.uni-heidelberg.de\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Landessternwarte K\u00f6nigstuhl (LSW)<\/a>. Non-university research institutions involved are the <a title=\"MPIA\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mpia.de\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Max Planck Institute of Astronomy (MPIA)<\/a> and the <a title=\"HITS\" href=\"https:\/\/www.h-its.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies (HITS)<\/a>.
