Wie sie im Fachmagazin Nature Methods berichten, untersuchten Forscher unter der Leitung von Peer Bork (European Molecular Biology Laboratory, EMBL) die genetischen Informationen aus rund 250 Stuhlproben. Die Unmengen gefundener Erbgutfragmente wurden digitalisiert, per Computer geordnet und dem Erbgut von rund tausend Arten zugeordnet. \u201eMit unserer neuen Methode k\u00f6nnen wir erstmals anhand eines Stammbaums auch bisher unbekannte Arten identifizieren\u201c, sagt Alexandros Stamatakis, Leiter der Forschungsgruppe \u201eScientific Computing\u201c am Heidelberger Institut f\u00fcr Theoretische Studien (HITS).
