Medical Data Specialist, Medical Informatics Scientist or Bioinformatician (m/f/d)

 The SDBV group at HITS is a core partner in the German National Research Data Infrastructure for Personal Health Data (​NFDI4Health​) that deals with data generated in clinical trials, epidemiological and public health studies, including studies on COVID-19. The aim is to make it easier for scientists and clinicians to find and exchange information, as well as relevant research data from such studies.
 
Your role
In collaboration with project partners across Germany you will conceptualize, refine, and establish (meta-)data models for research data from studies in the health domain and define requirements for the services and tools developed in NFDI4Health.
 
Your responsibilities will also include:

  • Analyzing the users’ needs and translate them into software requirements
  • Working closely with software developers in the team who will implement corresponding solutions
  • Help making the (meta-)data from health studies FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable)
  • Drive and contribute to the further standardization of health studies, their documentation, and their (meta-)data

What qualifies you for this job

  • Degree in medical informatics, medical documentation or in another (bio-)medical or life science, bioinformatics, computer science, mathematics or equivalent education
  • Experience with data modelling and (meta-)data structures in the medical domain
  • Knowledge about medical (meta-)data standards and formats (such as HL7 FHIR, CDISC ODM, etc.) and terminologies/ontologies (e.g., SNOMED CT, ICD-10, LOINC, etc.)
  • Familiarity with structuring and/or analyzing data and metadata from clinical trials and/or epidemiological studies or similar is desirable
  • Previous experience with medical databases is of advantage
  • Interest in interdisciplinary communication, multi-site (inter-)national collaboration
  • Very good communication skills in English and German

The environment of this job

  • Fixed-termed position for initially 2 years with an option of extension
  • Interdisciplinary team ranging from data scientists with background in biology and biochemistry, to software developers and computer scientists
  • Interaction with various national and international users of the developed tools and services, as well as with colleagues and partners worldwide
  • Possibility to contribute to national (DIN) and international (ISO, CEN, HL7, CDISC, etc.) data standardization efforts and initiatives

 
The SDBV group is attractively located in the “Mathematikon” next to the Heidelberg University and University Hospital
