We seek to fill two PhD positions (m/f/d)
at the interface of computational materials science and biophysics.
We are looking for excellent, highly motivated PhD students to join our research team.
Within the newly established graduate school „Tailored Scale-Bridging Approaches to Computational Nanoscience” (SPP 1782) funded by the DFG, the PhD project aims at uncovering the molecular principles of biological lubricants. Within the newly established cluster of excellence “3D Matter made to order” funded by the DFG, the project aims at examining the mechano-sensing mechanisms at play at cell-matrix contacts. In a highly interdisciplinary team, you will employ and further develop Molecular Dynamics simulations to key proteins at cellular contacts. Visit www.3dmattermadetoorder.kit.edu for details.
In either case, you will primarily work in the Molecular Biomechanics Group in Heidelberg, which focuses on the link between mechanical forces, materials and biology by developing and using novel algorithms based on Molecular Dynamics simulations, coarse-grained models, Finite Element methods, and bioinformatics. You will closely collaborate with other groups at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. You will work in an exceptional research setting embedded into a highly interdisciplinary and collaborative environment of the graduate school or excellence cluster.
You should preferably have experience in numerical simulations and should possess a Master’s degree in physics, chemistry or a related discipline. You should have a strong interest in interdisciplinary research.
The PhD position is limited to three years. The candidate will be employed at Heidelberg University, but he/she will be based at HITS. Depending on the project, a PhD stipend or salary in accordance with the German state public service salary scale (75% E13 TV-L West) will be offered. The intended starting date is April 2019 and negotiable.
