Position MCM Group HITS-04-2019

Postdoc position in the Molecular and Cellular Modelling group at the Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies (HITS gGmbH) in Heidelberg, Germany

We are seeking a highly motivated scientist to join the Molecular and Cellular Modelling group at HITS as a postdoctoral research associate.

HITS was established in 2010 by the physicist and SAP co-founder Klaus Tschira (1940-2015) and the Klaus Tschira Foundation as a private, non-profit research institute. HITS conducts basic research in the natural sciences, mathematics and computer science, with a focus on the processing, structuring, and analyzing of large amounts of complex data and the development of computational methods and software.  HITS offers a highly interdisciplinary scientific environment, with research fields ranging from molecular biology to astrophysics, strong computational and data science expertise, as well as excellent computational facilities. The institute is located on the Villa Bosch campus not far from the historic center of Heidelberg. HITS provides a vibrant and stimulating environment for cutting-edge research, with scientists coming from more than 20 countries and collaborations with academic and industry partners. HITS is an equal opportunity employer.

The Molecular and Cellular Modeling group is an interdisciplinary research group that works on the development and application of computer-aided methods to model and simulate biomolecular interactions. The focus is on proteins and the computational approaches are mostly based on the three-dimensional structures of macromolecules. Techniques cover a wide spectrum from interactive, web-based visualization tools to molecular and Brownian dynamics simulations (see

The postdoc will do research in the recently established Informatics4Life ( consortium on subproject 2 : Structure-based Design of Peptide-based Pharmaceuticals against Striated Muscle Disorders.

Applicants for the postdoc position must hold a doctorate in computational biochemistry, biophysics, molecular biotechnology, or a related field. Candidates should preferably have a strong theoretical background, experience in biomolecular modelling and simulation, possess excellent programming skills, and have a genuine interest in interdisciplinary research.  Strong communication skills are desired.

The position is available from September 2019 onwards.
