Neutrinos from supernovae

In a recent publication in Physical Review D, HITS researchers Friedrich Röpke and Sebastian Ohlmann were part of a team around Warren Wright from North Carolina State University to compare the neutrino output of different scenarios of Type Ia supernovae. These are explosions of white dwarf stars; however, the detailed progenitor systems and explosion mechanisms remain elusive. In this paper, neutrino signals for future neutrino detectors are computed and corresponding observations will help to discriminate between the different scenarios.

About HITS

HITS, the Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies, was established in 2010 by physicist and SAP co-founder Klaus Tschira (1940-2015) and the Klaus Tschira Foundation as a private, non-profit research institute.
