Independent Postdoc Program

The HITS Independent Postdoc Program offers a great opportunity for young scientists at the transition from PhD student to being a junior group leader. It supports young scientists to explore own ambitious ideas and to test new hypotheses. High-risk, high-gain projects are welcome. Selected Postdocs will collaborate with group leaders at HITS while developing and pursuing their independent research projects.

The HITS Independent Postdoc Fellowship is awarded for 2 years, with an option for a 1-year extension after positive evaluation. There exists the possibility for childcare and relocation allowance. We offer a vibrant research community and a highly interdisciplinary and international working environment, with close links to Heidelberg University and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). In addition, successful candidates benefit from scientific seminars and courses offered at HITS.

Eligibility and Requirements:

  • Candidates must hold a doctoral degree or an equivalent academic qualification at the start of the fellowship.
  • Application is open to candidates up to 2 years after completion of their PhD. Family breaks like maternity and parental leave are not counted towards this limit.
  • The candidate has never been working at HITS.

The annual call for the Independent Postdoc Program is announced on the 1st of October. Applications need to be submitted by the 15th of November. Application material includes a CV and a letter of motivation answering the question “How would I benefit from working at HITS”. In addition, a short project proposal (2 pages) and 2 reference letters are required.

Keep your eyes open for the annual call on our website and on our social media channels.
