HITS conducts basic research in natural sciences, mathematics and computer science to process, structure, and organize large amounts of data. The areas covered by our research range from molecular biology to astrophysics.
We focus on new theoretical approaches towards interpreting the rapidly increasing amounts of experimental data, e.g. with simulations and data mining.
HITS strives for a long-term research agenda in a few challenging fields – there are no short-term projects or side activities. We rather focus on a small number of demanding projects, which show high potential for significant results.
Our research is interdisciplinary and cooperative. We collaborate intensively with other research institutions, universities and industry partners.
Furthermore, we want to raise public awareness for the importance of science – especially data-driven science.
