Humboldt Fellow from Taipei, Taiwan, at HITS – Invitation by the Physics of Stellar Objetcs group
HITS has welcomed a new Alexander von Humboldt Fellow: The astrophysicist Ke-Jung Chen, assistant research fellow and the leader of the cosmic explosion group at the Academia Sinica Institute of Astronomy and Astrophysics (ASIAA), Taipei, Taiwan. He has been invited by HITS group leader Friedrich Röpke (Physics of Stellar Objects, PSO). Ke-Jung Chen’s research interest in computational astrophysics focuses on modeling the supernovae explosions and their cosmological impact by using multidimensional hydrodynamics/radiation/cosmological simulations. These supernovae stem from the death of massive stars, triggered by core-collapse, magnetar, pair-instability, and general-relativity instability.
Ke-Jung Chen received a Humboldt fellowship for experienced researchers. He is accompanied by Wun-Yi Chen, a PhD student at the ASIAA. His stay is supported by a fellowship from the NSTC-DAAD Summer Program. Both scientists will stay until September 2025.
HITS, the Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies, was established in 2010 by physicist and SAP co-founder Klaus Tschira (1940-2015) and the Klaus Tschira Foundation as a private, non-profit research institute. HITS conducts basic research in the natural, mathematical, and computer sciences. Major research directions include complex simulations across scales, making sense of data, and enabling science via computational research. Application areas range from molecular biology to astrophysics. An essential characteristic of the Institute is interdisciplinarity, implemented in numerous cross-group and cross-disciplinary projects. The base funding of HITS is provided by the Klaus Tschira Foundation.
